Melaka: A teenage boy and his five-year-old sister died while receiving treatment at the hospital after their motorcycle collided with a Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) garbage bin on the Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) highway yesterday evening.
The tragic incident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. when the victims were on their way to visit their late father's grave in Bertam Hulu before having dinner with their family.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, stated that the victims, Muhammad Amirul Hazlin, 18, and his younger sister, Nur Afiqah Sofea Hazlin, 5, succumbed to their injuries while being treated in the red zone of Melaka Hospital.
At the time of the accident, Muhammad Amirul was riding a Demak DV110 motorcycle, with his sister riding pillion, heading from Ayer Keroh towards Sungai Udang.
Incident Details: Preliminary investigations suggest that the rider failed to notice the RORO container placed at the roadside, leading to the collision. Both victims sustained severe injuries and were immediately rushed to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, both siblings passed away last night. Muhammad Amirul was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., followed by his sister at 12:30 a.m.
Further investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, including efforts to locate the owner of the RORO bin and any potential witnesses to the incident.
